Perhaps the best filter in the world, often imitated but never equaled. While most filters are made of paper or foam, K&N has created a very special filter.
A paper filter will become progressively dirtier with prolonged use, eventually leading to a significant reduction in airflow and thus power.
A foam filter is somewhat better, but lacks sufficient surface area to maintain clean airflow for extended periods. A K&N filter consists of 2 aluminum grids with several layers of special cotton in between. This 'mat' is extensively pleated, significantly increasing the filter's surface area.
The actual filtration is achieved by the special oil in which this element is soaked. The passing airflow gives the filter an electrostatic charge, causing dust particles to be effectively trapped and held by the oil.
After a long period, sometimes up to 100,000 km, the filter can be cleaned and reused.
